The Laura Ashley Story
It was a visit to the V&A Museum’s exhibition English Chintz: Two Centuries of Changing Taste that inspired Laura and Bernard Ashley to start hand-printing fabric at their kitchen table in their tiny flat in Pimlico, London in 1953. Driven by Laura’s passion for design and detail, the couple would call on the major stores personally selling their tea towels, scarves and placemats.
Over the decades, the business grew from these humble beginnings, standing firm on its traditional values of quality and design. Now with over 65 years of design excellence, it is one of the world’s best-loved and most trusted home furnishings brands.

Epitomising what we recognise as the Laura Ashley brand, the printed fabric designs were painstakingly researched and developed from museum archives by Laura herself; the sense of history behind each print gives them an authenticity and timeless quality. Later product ranges, including lighting, remain imbued with this sense of heritage and timeless elegance.
Laura Ashley style
With roots in the arts movements of the nineteenth century from the romantic florals through Arts & Crafts and country house to timeless classics, the quintessentially British Laura Ashley style evokes a mood of peace and serenity. The atmosphere it creates is one of harmony, warmth and welcome, whether your home is a cosy Cotswold cottage or a terraced town house. It recalls the days of honesty and authenticity when everything was crafted from local natural materials, sturdy enough to be used for life and cherished enough to be passed down to the next generation.

Who makes Laura Ashley lighting?
As Laura Ashley expanded its Home collection to include lighting and mirrors, the company turned to där Lighting as the leading expert in the industry to design and manufacture these ranges for them; a role we were proud to perform for many years until early 2020.
A year later, we have been appointed as the only company licensed to design and manufacture Laura Ashley lighting for Europe and the UK. We are delighted to be partnering with this iconic brand once again, and look forward to creating beautiful new collections reflecting the design and quality that is the Laura Ashley tradition.
